Brest national school of engineering

Public graduate school of engineering and research institute

Located in Brest, at the western tip of France in Brittany, ENIB is one of the highly selective French Grandes Ecoles d’Ingénieurs. It is a graduate school of engineering with a rigorous selection procedure and a high level teaching programme. The Brest National School of Engineering is accredited by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur (CTI), the independent organisation responsible for the accreditation of engineering curricula and higher education institutions in the field of engineering. As part of the Brest-Iroise technology cluster, which houses leading laboratories and innovative companies, ENIB enjoys an exceptional setting right by the sea.

Degree in system engineering (M.Eng)

The 5-year engineering degree (Master’s Degree in Engineering) graduates engineers in the fields of Electronics, Computer Science and Mechatronics. The programme is entirely semester-based: each semester of study is run twice in the same academic year (a fall session starting in September and a spring session starting in February). The ENIB engineering degree is accredited by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieurs (CTI). Only the programmes accredited by the CTI can obtain the title of engineer. The national engineering degree, recognised by the State, awards a Master degree.

Masters of science (M.Sc)

Master Radio-Frequency Electronics and Telecommunications
Master Intelligent and Autonomous Interactive Systems
Master Mechanical Engineering and Materials

PhDs

ENIB also awards PhD degrees in the fields of Engineering Science and Information and Communication Technology and Science (ICTS). ENIB welcomes PhD students in two research laboratories (IRDL and Lab-STICC). Writing a Doctoral thesis is a way to lead a scientific research project over a period of three years and in a research laboratory under the supervision of advanced researchers. The national Doctorate degree is a diploma recognised by the State and awards the title of Doctor.

A research institute

Many research projects are conducted through partnerships with industry and foreign academic institutions. These dynamics are reflected in publications (journals, books), but also conferences, patents… All of these activities and outputs contribute to the international reputation of research at ENIB.

2 research laboratories at the forefront of innovation:

The European Research Center for Virtual Reality (CERV)

The CERV’s research focuses on virtual reality, autonomous behaviours, intelligent environments, Human-Machine interaction, and the modeling and simulation of complex systems.

Research Focus and Areas of Expertise

ENIB has developed strong expertise in 4 main scientific areas closely linked to the courses taught during the programme:

About engineering education in France

France is famous for the quality of its engineering programmes which combine rigorous training in science with practical training in engineering. The close relations between French engineering schools and industry and business enhance the quality and relevance of the education students receive.
ENIB is one of the highly selective French Grandes Ecoles d’Ingénieurs. In France, there are about 240 such engineering schools. These small to middle-sized institutions share common features including their small workshop sessions, high teaching standards, innovative pedagogical methods and selective recruitment process. Their curriculum comprises high level training in project management, economics and human sciences. They are strongly vocationally oriented and organised in cooperation with industry partners. They also provide work experience placements.
The engineering degree called in France Diplôme d’ingénieur is a highly esteemed degree. It can only be delivered by a French engineering school accredited by the French National Commission for Engineering Degrees (CTI). CTI (Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur) is an independent body established by French law. Its legal missions are: the evaluation and assessment of higher education institutions in the fields of engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, project management; the development of quality in engineering education; the promotion of engineering curricula and careers in France and abroad.
